About My Performing
The most exciting thing about vocal music is its variety, and that's what guides my musical career. Equally important to me is that a wide range of people hear wonderful music written for voice and that is why I have chosen outlets that perform locally. Currently I sing musical theater, operetta, early music and choral music for audiences in northern New Jersey.
To fulfill my passion for musical theater and operetta I appear with Ridge Light Opera in Basking Ridge. This group is dedicated to performing Gilbert and Sullivan, American operetta and musical theater with an emphasis on excellent singing. By uniting acting and singing as these styles do, audience members find these styles accessible and entertaining.
Besides modern opera and operetta I am also very interested in early music. I started singing with Amherst Early Music with their summer Baroque Academy program in 2005, which is where I met Julianne Baird with whom I continue to coach. For me early music is a treasure trove of hidden gems; it is stunningly beautiful music with which many people are unfamiliar. To bring that experience to my local community I have performed with the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey under Bob Butts as a soloist and guest artist. It is wonderful to have a local group dedicated to bringing early music and opera to more people.
Returning to the choral roots of my youth, I also sing with Harmonium Choral Society. Outreach and excellence of singing in our communities continue to be the themes of this experience.
My voice studio, with locations in Maplewood and Morristown, is another way I bring a variety of vocal music to the community. I see almost forty students a week and work with them on music ranging from broadway standards to the early music I love so much. With each of them I try to find their unique voice and help them achieve their musical goals.
